A superconducting element comprising a high temperature superconducting film deposited on a technical substrate (1) consisting of a stainless steel containing Ni, Cr, and Fe and possible further alloying elements, preferably Mn and Si, can be produced with great lengths and high critical current densities of the superconducting layer if the stainless steel is a heat resistant steel containing 16 to 25 % Ni and 18 to 28 % Cr, rest iron and said possible alloying elements.
