The present invention relates to a method of controlling a process for producing distillate fuel heavier than gasoline. The process includes several different fractions, streams, including alcohols, olefins and acids. One or more of the streams are irradiated with IR rays to determine one or more concentrations selected from alcohols, olefins and acids. The temperature of the separator is then adjusted to change the concentration to a predetermined value.
