The unstressed part is placed in a corrosive atmosphere identical to that in which it operates until the degree of corrosion no longer has any effect on the stress-number curve. In the same atmosphere applying an alternating load stress-number curves are recorded until the fatigue strength is reached. Comparison with curves obtained for non-corroded parts enables interpolation of the number of load cycles before the failure
