The device has upper and lower frames (8,9) with a height adjustment mechanism between, whereby the upper frame is adjustable in height wrt. the lower frame and has attachment points (10a,10b) for the seating and/or lying surface. The lower frame has foot supports (11a,11b). The height adjustment device has a constant support width for the outer support points over the entire adjustment process. The left lever pair consists of a continuous lever mounted on the upper frame to move radially and on the lower frame to move horizontally. The right lever pair consists of a continuous lever mounted on the lower frame to move radially and on the upper frame to move horizontally.
