Cyclohexane-polycarboxylic acids or their derivatives which do not cause a significant increase in liver weight or a doubling of specific enzyme activity in liver homogenates when tested in rodents at oral dosage levels of 1000 mg/kg per day for at least 14 days, are used as plasticizers for toxicologically acceptable plastics. Cyclohexane-polycarboxylic acids or their derivatives (or mixtures of these) which do not cause a significant increase in liver weight or a doubling of the specific activity of cyanide-insensitive palmitoyl-CoA oxidase in liver homogenates after administration to rodents by stomach tube at a daily dosage of 1000 mg/kg body weight for at least 14 days are used as plasticizers for the production of toxicologically acceptable plastics.
