The method involves feeding the items for cleaning into the area covered by a digital camera (37-39), acquiring an image of the conveyor scene, displaying distance, orientation or position of the items for cleaning in the image by contrast analysis, comparing distance, orientation or position with a reference image defining the desired orientation, distances or positions, determining the items for cleaning for selective intervention and actuating the intervention arrangement (14-16;23-33;20-22).
