The navigation system provides guidance to the driver taking account of the country-specific traffic regulations. If a country specific marker is missing or if the navigation system fails, the navigation system outputs an error message, and the driver inputs a country specific marker manually into the navigation system. The country specific marker may indicate driving on the left or the right side of the road.
