The controller has an electronic memory (14) holding information about the geographic course of roads and about the direction of the road lanes, an electronic device (16) that determines the vehicle position, an electronic device (18) that determines the vehicle's current direction, a data processor (26) that detects the current lane from the position and direction and detects any existing or impending conflict between vehicle and lane directions and a signaling device (28) that outputs a corresponding control signal to a vehicle device (32). An Independent claim is also included for a control method for preventing driving on the wrong side of the road.
