The variator slip regulation method has a slip counter field (1) incremented in dependence on the conversion ratio and the engine torque, with simultaneous indexing of a slip counter (2) of an evaluation module (3), which is used for weighting the duration and intensity of the variator slip and incrementation of a slip status counter field (4), used for local variation of the variator pressure, a signal supplied to a fault memory (5) upon detection of band slip.
