A steering angle sensor (1) is operated based on the component of a maximum signal corrected according to an offset value which marks a corresponding sector. An actual-value related sector is allocated in a threshold comparison path. A corrected actual value, to be used in determining the position of a scanning device within the measurement range of the sensor, is evaluated.
