A device is used to produce an essentially wedge-shaped woodchip (10 '), in particular in connection with the profiling of tree trunks. The wood chips (10 ') are machined from the wood by means of a chipper tool (44) which can be rotated about a first axis (46) in such a way that it has a first, concave surface (12) and a second, convex surface (14) which between limit the wood chips (10 '). The first axis (46) runs horizontally. A circular saw blade (70) which can be rotated about a second, vertical axis (72) is provided in order to remove the wood before chipping in the area in which the surfaces (12, 14) converge in an imaginary tip (16) (FIG. 6).
