The method involves introducing an at least partly noisy test signal into the transmission path (2) and measuring the resulting output signal. The test signal is composed from mutually orthogonal carrier frequencies and contains a data sequence with information from which the input noisy carrier signal can be reconstructed. The test signal is orthogonal frequency division multiplex modulated. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for determining the transfer characteristic of a transmission path.
