In the preparation of tin sulfide (I) by reacting a water-soluble tin compound (II) with a sulfide ion source (III), selected from alkali metal or ammonium sulfides or hydrogen sulfides or their mixtures, in presence of ammonium chloride (IV), an aqueous solution of (II) and an aqueous solution of (III) are added simultaneously to an aqueous solution of (IV).
