The retractable restraining device has a measurement transmitter to record the impact force exerted on the restraining device. An electric motor drive is reversibly controllable by a control unit with regard to the impact force. The electric motor drive is used as the measurement transmitter for the impact force, and a measurement value corresponding to the impact force is gained from the values of the motor current and/or voltage.
