The foamed core (2) is bonded to reinforcing material (4) by a synthetic matrix. It has an outer cover layer (6) covered by a lacquer (8). The core is a material that is resistant to high temperatures and is stable above 180 [deg]C. It is largely inorganic, can have open or closed cells, and the matrix contains a binder based on the foam material. An independent claim is also included for a process consisting of placing the foamed core (2) and reinforcement (4) in a mold lined with the cover layer (6) material, and injecting the matrix material. The component is lacquered and dried in an oven at over 80 [deg]C. Preferred Features: The foam has a density of 100 to 800 kg/m3. The reinforcement is a fabric or non-woven as normally employed in the RTM (resin transfer molding) method used.
