A system (I) for phosphate regulation of gene expression in gram positive organisms, comprising a gene expression unit containing a first expression control sequence with a phosphate controllable promoter and a ribosomal attachment region, and a regulation unit containing a PhoP-PhoP-phosphate regulation system from Bacillus operably linked to a second expression control sequence, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a gram positive cell comprising (I); and (2) genetically producing a polypeptide in a gram positive prokaryotic cell using (I).
