Method for regulating the electrical capacity between two electrodes (3, 4) located in a gas (5), especially air, of a gas discharge module (2) comprises controlling the effective value of the high voltage of a high voltage generator (1) in an increasing manner when the actual value of the capacity between the electrodes lies below a certain desired value, or controlling the effective value of the high voltage of a high voltage generator (1) in an decreasing manner when the actual value of the capacity between the electrodes lies above a certain desired value. Independent claims are also included for; (1) A method for regulating a starting voltage of a controllable high voltage generator; (2) A method for regulating the ionization performance of a gas discharge; (3) A method for establishing the degree of depletion of a gas filter; and (4) A device for producing a gas discharge.
