The appliance for peeling potatoes, by swirling them around in a basin against an abrasive cladding (15), has a water jet drive in the appliance cover, with a water wheel and water outlet jets. The rotation of the water wheel is transmitted by a shaft (10) to the peeling disk (14), using a short transmission shaft which can be extended by a removable intermediate shaft (8).
