The belt compound comprises short aramid(8) and non-aramid(38) fibers mixed into a rubber matrix. Fibers of both types have sections extruded from the belt surface, the aramid fiber sections(15) being inclined in a specific direction while the non-aramid fiber sections(40) are inclined in various directions. Extruded sections of aramid fibers are longer than those of non-aramid fibers. An Independent claim is made for a process for manufacturing the transmission belt which includes a grinding stage to extrude the fiber sections. The belt surface(11) is ground with a grinding disc whose particles covers 3.5-55% of the disc area. 50-95% of the particle size projects above the disc surface.
