A device to control the amount of gearbox lubricant in a gearbox housing of a vehicle comprises a housing with a sealed inner section containing a lubricant and a gearwheel located in the housing in rotatable fashion which turns through the lubricant. The housing has a first wall fastened to a lower part of the sealed inner section that bounds a first and a second chamber. The gear wheel turns in the first chamber and forces the lubricant over the first wall into the second chamber when the gearwheel turns with high speed. The first wall has an opening of a certain size so that the lubricant can flow back into the first chamber in an amount that is greater than the forced amount with low speeds and is smaller than the forced amount with high speeds.
