The engine (1) is connected to the gearbox (3) via an electromagnetic clutch (2). There are speed sensors (23,24) on the input shaft and the output shaft. There is a switch (25) for engagement of reverse gear. A switching and actuating system (5) and a switching and position sensing system (6) are connected to internally-toothed gearwheels (22a-c). The main control circuit (4) is connected to the switching systems, a throttle valve (9) actuator (11) and an engine rev counter (26). There are position inputs from the throttle valve (7), the accelerator pedal (10) and the gear lever (12).
