The operating system has a graphic operating surface (2) for controlling the printing machine via the operator and an electronic documentation selectively displayed at the graphic operating surface, for providing operating information for the printing machine, a replacement parts catalogue and servicing information for the printing machine. When an electronic component fails a corresponding electronic address is provided for supplying the operator with the replacement part number and/or identification via a display at the operating surface. An Independent claim for an updating method for a printing machine operating system is also included.
