The endoscope system (10) has a viewing device (12) with a CCD image sensor at its distal end, providing image pixel signals converted into a video signal, which is processed for altering the peak-to-peak level of its synchronising signal component, under control of a manual setting system, with the manually selected level alteration displayed. The manual setting system is incorporated in the housing of the image signal processing device (14) so that it is accessible for a handtool.
