An assembly of silicon carbide-containing ceramic elements has a brazed joint formed of a Si-Rh brazing alloy which is resistant to fluorine at above 50 degrees C. Preferably, the Si-Rh alloy contains 40-60 (preferably 50)% silicon. Also claimed is a method of assembling SiC-containing ceramic elements by positioning a Si-Rh brazing alloy between the ceramic elements and heating to a brazing temperature of 1450-1600 degrees C. Positioning of the brazing alloy is preferably effected by coating the element surfaces with a suspension of brazing alloy particles in a binder which volatilises at below 1000 degrees C.
