A process for preparing triethylenediamine (TEDA) involves passing an amine compound (I) over a pentasil-type zeolite (2), at elevated temperature. (I) is selected from monoethanolamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine, ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, piperazine, N-hydroxyethylpiperazine, bis(hydroxyethyl)-piperazine, N-aminoethylpiperazine and/or morpholine. The improvement involves the use of (2) in the hydrogen or ammonium form, which has been treated with a dealuminating agent (3).
