Fuel composition comprises hydrocarbon oil, water and surfactants to form water-in-oil emulsion with improved combustion properties

The emulsion contains water droplets of controlled dimensions enabling, on combustion, a rapid conversion to steam and fragmentation of the surrounding fuel oil droplets (secondary atomization). The water-in-oil emulsion comprises a liquid hydrocarbon fuel-oil, 5-20 vol.% water in the form of dispersed droplets in the fuel oil, at least 50% being of a diameter greater than 10 micro m, and an effective amount of an emulsifying surfactant to prevent the separation of the water and maintenance of the stability of distribution of size of the water droplets. Independent claims are also included for the combustion process of the composition and the preparation of the emulsion.
