A method of treating and a composition for treating female sexual arousal dysfunction, comprising administering to the patient a unit dose of a formulation comprising an effective amount of a prostaglandin, selected from prostaglandin E₁, prostaglandin E₂, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof and physiologically acceptable esters thereof, wherein the prostaglandin is formulated with prostaglandin F_2&agr;, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable delivery medium and/or a lubricant.
