PURPOSE: To provide a magnetic field generating device used in an undulator for a hybrid type insert light source generating radial rays or free electron lasers, in which the position or inclination of a radial ray optical axis is not changed even when a magnetic pole interval which is changed for obtaining radial rays of various wavelengths is changed. ;CONSTITUTION: Permanent magnets 28 and magnetic poles 26 are provided alternately in a main part 12, and two permanent magnets 22, 24, 30, 32 and two magnetic poles 20, 34 are disposed alternately at an entrance part 10 and an exit part 14 respectively. The permanent magnets 22, 24, 30, 32 at the entrance part 10 and the exit part 14 have such forms and sizes, and are disposed in such a way as to generate magnetic field distribution in which a double integration value of magnetic flux density along a magnetic circuit center axis becomes simple harmonic oscillation about a zero value at the main part 12.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1995,JPO
