PURPOSE: To maintain the retention time of polluted water and a contact area with a contact material and to secure purification capacity by scraping together sludge precipitated on the bottom surface of a sludge receiving tank from a contact material tank through the holes of a support member into a sludge storage tank by a sludge scraping means. CONSTITUTION: In a purification apparatus 1, sludge deposited in a pebble tank 10 precipitates gradually and slowly, enters a sludge receiving space 20 from the holes of a grating 12, and drops on the bottom surface 21. When polluted river water A which is introduced into a inflow water channel 51 from an introduction channel overflows from a partition wall 53 to a flow straightening channel area 52, a hydraulic turbine 42 is rotated in the D direction by flowing water pressure, and the rotation is inverted to drive a chain belt 45 in the E direction. A chain belt 44 is driven in the E' direction through a pulley 43a, and weir plates 41a, 41b coming to the bottom surface 21 side are slided toward a sludge storage tank 30 along the bottom surface 21. In this way, sludge on the bottom surface 21 is scraped together to the tank 30.
