PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate the performance of a cation exchange resin and judge the replacement timing by adsorbing copper ions and/or iron ions to a cation exchange resin, putting it in touch with a hydrazine aqueous solution to generate accelerative deterioration, putting an eluate in contact with it, and measuring the amount of polystylene sulfonic acid eluded from the resin at this time. ;SOLUTION: Copper ions or iron ions are adsorbed to an ion exchange resin. The ion absorption resin is contacted with a hydrazine water solution so that cation exchange resin is deteriorated forcedly. The copper ions contacted and adsorbed are segregated by a water solution of hydrochloric acid. The resin is immersed in a water solution containing ammonia and hydrazine, followed by shaking, and the performance of the resin is evaluated using as index the amount of polystylene sulfonic acid in the eluate. The index for evaluation of the resin performance should be a PSS whose molecular weight in the eluded polystyrene sulfonic acid is over 1600, preferably over 5000.
