PURPOSE:To reduce the saturation magnetic field of a magnetoresistance effect element and to make it possible to obtain a large magnetoresistance variation rate in a small magnetic field by a method wherein the magnetoresistance effect element is provided with a multilayer body, which is formed in such a way that magnetic layers and non-magnetic layers exhibit a magnetoresistance effect, and an inversion assisting layer, which is formed on this multilayer body and assists an inversion of magnetic moments in the magnetic layers. CONSTITUTION:A multilayer body 4 formed by superposing alternately magnetic layers 2 and non-magnetic layers 3 is formed on a substrate 1 and an inversion assisting layer 5 is formed thereon. An inversion assisting layer 5 is formed on a substrate 1 and the multilayer body 4 is formed thereon. Moreover, a plurality of multilayer bodies are provided and inversion assisting layers 5 are respectively made to interpose between the respective multilayer bodies 4. A plurality of layers of inversion assisting layers 5 are superposed via non-magnetic layers 6 and moreover, multilayer body 4 is laid. Even in which case of the above cases, the multilayer body 4 is so formed that the layers 2 and 3 exhibit a magnetoresistance effect, magnetic moments in the layers 2 are easily inverted by the inversion assisting layer 5 and the saturation magnetic field of a magnetoresistance effect element can be increased.
