PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound which has an allosteric function, is useful as an ingredient for artificial blood, and can additionally be expected as a position-selective oxygenating reagent and as a highly sensitive sensor for gas molecules such as oxygen, nitrogen monoxide and carbon monoxide. ;SOLUTION: A porphyrin dimer of formula I [M is Fe(II) or Co(II); Im is an imidazolyl group of formula II (R2 and R3 are each H or an alkyl) or the like; R1 is a substituted phenyl group of formula III (R5 is H, a halogen or the like; R6 is an alkyl, an aryl or the like; R7 is H, a halogen or the like)], for example, 5,10,15-tris(α,α,α-o-pivaloylaminophenyl)-20-imidazolyl iron (II) porphyrin dimer.
