PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling roll and a twin roll type continuous casting method which enable, in the initial stage of casting, quick formation of good sealing state and after coming into a stationary state of casting, maintaining of the good sealing state by making a side weir refractory wear by necessary amount at the necessary time.;SOLUTION: This cooling roll for twin roll type continuous casting, has the surface roughness Rz at both end surfaces adjusted to 20 μm≤Rz≤200 μm. When the casting comes to the stationary state after starting the casting by using the cooling rolls, lubricant is supplied into both end surfaces of the cooling rolls to perform the casting. At this time, pushing speed of the side weir may be decreased. When a linear groove is formed in the side weir, the supply of the lubricant is stopped and the pushing speed of the side weir is raised. Surface roughing, such as laser beam machining, electric discharge machining, a shot-blast work, is applied to both end surfaces of the cooling roll to adjust the surface roughness Rz to 20 μm≤Rz≤200 μm.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
