PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side thruster device for a ship, used for lateral movement or turning control of the ship, reducing the weight of a water in a pipe and making effective use of a space in the ship by shortening the pipe for the side thruster device.;SOLUTION: The side thruster device comprises a pipe 4 provided passing through the hull 3 of the ship 1 and an impeller 7 arranged in the pipe 4, which is rotated to produce a water flow in the pipe 4 and cause the water sucked from an intake port 5 opening under a draft line of a board side 1a to be jetted from a jet nozzle 6 on the board side 1a for the lateral movement or turning of the ship 1. The pipe 4 passing through the hull 3 is formed in a U-shape, the intake port 5 of the pipe 4 and the jet nozzle 6 are opened to one board side 1a and the pipe 4 is arranged symmetrically at the right and left board sides 1a, 1b of the hull 3 for suction and discharge of a water in a short flow passage. Therefore, the weight of the water in the pipe can be reduced, high- speed sailing be carried out and the space in the ship be effectively used.
