PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic-inorganic composite material with a component gradient structure in which the content of a metal component changes continuously in the thickness-wise direction of the material, having excellent adhesion, durability and flexibility.;SOLUTION: This organic-inorganic composite material with a component- gradient structure has a compound obtained by chemically bonding an organic polymer with a metal oxide compound. It has a component-gradient structure in which the content of the metal component changes continuously in the depth- wise direction from the surface of the material. As an organic polymer, a copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer having a hydrolyzable metal- containing group is used. The metal oxide compound is formed from a mixture and/or a reaction product of a silicon alkoxide compound and/or a hydrolysis- polycondensation polymer thereof, and alkoxide components of different metals other than silicon and/or hydrolysis-polycondensation polymers thereof.
