The present invention refers to compositions and methods for treating and preventing breast cancer; it is provided a method to treat breast cancer in which it is coadministered tamoxifen and an isoflavone to a woman with breast cancer; tamoxifen is administered to prevent, reduce to the utmost or invert the development and growth of breast cancer; isoflavone is administered to prevent or reduce to the utmost the uterotrophic effects induced by tamoxifen, and preferably endometrial cancer; the administration of isoflavone prevents, reduces to the utmost and inverts breast cancer; in another aspect it coadministered tamoxifen an one isoflavone to a woman predisposed to having breast cancer in order to prevent it; a composition in accordance with the present invention contains tamoxifen in enough quantity as to prevent, reduce to the utmost or invert the development or growth of breast cancer and an isoflavone in enough quantity as to prevent or reduce to the utmost the uterotrophic effe cts induced by tamoxifen, preferably in enough quantity to prevent or reduce to the utmost endometrial cancer.
