A pharmaceutical formulation for treating unstable or overactive urinary bladder comprises in tolterodine or a tolterodine-related compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The formulation provides controlled release of tolterodine or the tolterodine-related compound or salt thereof such that a constant serum level of the active moieties or moiety is maintained for at least 24 hours.
