The present invention relates to compounds having binding affinity for specific sub-populations of antibodies to iChlamydophila abortus/i. More particularly, this invention relates to the use of compounds for the detection of iChlamydophila abortus/i infection. The proposed compound sequences provide unique reagents for the detection of sub-populations of antibodies to iChlamydophila abortus/i with supreme specificity with regard to possible cross-reactions with iChlamydophila pecorum/i and iChlamydophila psittaci/i in animals, such as sheep, goats and cattle, and iChlamydia trachomatis/i and iChlamydia pneumoniae/i in man.
