A computer-implemented method and apparatus for creating visual advertising media. In particular, a system comprising a graphical user interface for executing scripting software that integrates and coordinates the functionality of graphic design software, database software and media asset management software in the production of print and other published advertising media. The invention allows for the automation of previously manual functions and for increased productivity in creating layouts and proofs for advertising media. The invention also allows for novel features relating to the tracking of product placement in advertising media relative to sales plan data and allows for electronic approval of layouts and proofs by customers.
