The present invention provides a means to influence the formation and/or reduction of new lung cells, by influencing a Wnt-pathway in an alveolar type II cell and/or alveolar type II tumor cell from said lung. Therefore, the invention provides a composition comprising a nucleic acid capable of binding at least a functional part of a nucleic acid encoding a protein which is involved in a Wnt-pathway in said cell, said binding influencing said Wnt-pathway.;A composition of the invention may also comprise a protein capable of binding at least a functional part of a protein which is involved in a Wnt-pathway in said cell, or at least a functional part of a nucleic acid encoding a protein which is involved in a Wnt-pathway in said cell, said binding influencing said Wnt-pathway.;A composition of the invention is suitable for the preparation of a medicament against emphysema, Respiratory Distress Syndrome and/or lung cancer.
