System and method for managing background of internet

PURPOSE: A homepage background operation system and method thereof are provided to complete a background by registering a certain URL of a user's favorite web site in a main menu or sub menu of a background or registering the same in a background surface in an icon form. CONSTITUTION: A user is connected with a background operation server from a client through the Internet. The operation server checks as to whether the connected user is a registered member from a member information DB(S302) based on an ID and password. A non-registered user registers as a member(S304). A basic page of a background stored in the background information DB is set in a background setting unit(S306). A URL of a web site which will be registered in the background is selected(S308). It is judged as to whether the URL of the web site is stored in a start menu similar to the start menu of the windows system or in the surface of the background(S310). It is judged as to whether the URL of a corresponding web site is managed as a main menu or a sub menu(S312).
