PURPOSE: An acid-tolerant Lactobacillus reuteri Probio-16 suppressing the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and rotavirus, and probiotics containing the same microorganism are provided, thereby effectively preventing and treating diarrhea and other intestinal disorders caused by intestinal pathogenic microorganism. CONSTITUTION: The Lactobacillus reuteri Probio-16(KCCM 10214) suppresses the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and rotavirus and has acid-tolerance, bile acid-tolerance, antibiotics-tolerance, and optimal growth temperature of 30 to 37 deg.C. acid-tolerant Lactobacillus reuteri Probio-16 suppressing the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and rotavirus is isolated from feces of a female hog by the steps of: collecting feces from female hog; diluting the collected feces into pH 2 anaerobic broth medium and agitating them; spreading the dilution on a BL agar medium and cultivating it at 37 deg.C for 48 hours; selecting rod shaped colonies; cultivating them in GAM semi-agar medium; and selecting colonies showing excellent inhibiting activity for growth of rotavirus.
