1 2 INTERFACE DEVICE BETWEEN UTOPIA LEVEL-1 DEVICE AND UTOPIA LEVEL-2 DEVICE IN ATM SYSTEM

PURPOSE: An interface device between UTOPIA(Universal Test and Operations PHY Interface for ATM) level 1 and 2 devices in an ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) system is provided to easily connect between the UTOPIA level 1 and 2 devices by being designed using an external dual port FIFO(First-In First-Out). CONSTITUTION: A transmission external FIFO(100) stores ATM cell data transmitted from a UTOPIA level 1 device(1) to a UTOPIA level 2 device(2). An ATM transmission block(200) stores the ATM cell data transmitted from the UTOPIA level 1 device(1) in the transmission external FIFO(100), and notifies the UTOPIA level 2 device(2) that the ATM cell data exist in the transmission external FIFO(100) so that the UTOPIA level 2 device(2) reads the ATM cell data stored in the transmission external FIFO(100). A receipt external FIFO(300) stores ATM cell data transmitted from the UTOPIA level 2 device(2) to the UTOPIA level 1 device(1). An ATM receipt block(400) notifies the UTOPIA level 1 device(1) that the ATM cell data are written in the receipt external FIFO(300) by the UTOPIA level 2 device(2) so that the UTOPIA level 1 device(1) reads the ATM cell data stored in the receipt external FIFO(300). A bi-direction control unit(500) bypasses the ATM cell data to the transmission external FIFO(100) when the ATM cell data are transmitted from the UTOPIA level 1 device(1), and bypasses the ATM cell data to the UTOPIA level 1 device(1) when the UTOPIA level 1 device(1) reads the ATM cell data stored in the receipt external FIFO(300).
