PURPOSE: An AAL2 switching method and system having an input, output and time queue are provided to reduce a traffic taken for an ATM switch of a system by enabling an AAL2 switching, facilitate a testing by installing a CPU interface with a loop back path in an AAL2 switch, and facilitate extension of the AAL2 switch capacity by providing extensibility through a CPS packet router. CONSTITUTION: The first and second assembly/reassembly processing unit(100,101) stores a CPS packet in an arbitrary input queue of a plurality of input/output queues(200,201) in an ATM cell of an AAL2 type having a virtual path/virtual channel in the first and second input/output FIFO unit(700,800) or adds the AAL2 type ATM cell to the CPS packet when the CPS packet stored in an arbitrary output queue of the plurality of input/output queues(200,201) after being transmitted from a CPS packet switching unit is inputted. A CPS packet switching unit(500) reads the CPS packet from the first input/output queue(200) and stores it in the second input/output queue(201) with reference to a virtual path/virtual channel value, or includes the virtual/path/virtual channel value in the CPS packet outputted from the second input/output queue(201) and stores it in the first input/output queue(200). The first and second input/output queues(200,201) store the CPS packet. A CPU interface(400) enables the CPS packet to be transmitted and received to and from a CPU. The first time queues(301,302) and second time queues(300,303) store the number of input/output queues. A CPS packet router interface(600) is connected to a different CPS packet router and handles a CPS packet switching between AAL2 switches. The first and second input/output FIFO units(700,800) input and output the AAL2 type ATM cell.
