PURPOSE: A method for preparing an oxidized starch is provided, to oxidize the primary alcohol selectively of starch into the carboxy group and to improve the production yield and the purity. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of reacting starch with 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidine oxoammonium (TEMPO), sodium bromide and sodium hypochlorite at a room temperature and under an atmospheric pressure; and adding starch and sodium hypochlorite in equal molar ratio into the reaction solution to oxidize the starch continuously. Preferably the steps are carried out 20-25 times continuously. The pH is 9-12. The starch is corn starch, sweet potato starch or rice starch.
