SUBSTANCE: method involves applying magnetic resonance tomography examination to lumbar segment of the vertebral column for determining the area of the intervertebral foramen and the area of the corresponding spinal cord radix. Ratio of the intervertebral foramen area to that of the spinal cord radix is calculated as reserved space index. Its value being less than 1.22, the case of stenosis is to be diagnosed. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of diagnosis. 1 tbl
