The towing hook mounting (10) has connectors (62) on the vehicle side, to which trailer supply voltage and functional signals (TSFS) are applied. They mate with connectors (64) on the towing hook side. Connections are made or broken when the towing hook (20) is inserted into, or removed from the mounting. The towing hook connectors (64) take the TSFS to a trailer control circuit (68) decoder, which controls appropriate power switches for supply and functions on the trailer.
