Two plastics components with different colored pigments are welded with a laser and the weld is then viewed by a camera which detects light of a certain wavelength. Light of this wavelength is directed at the seam and passes through the plastic which is transparent to light of this wavelength. The camera records light reflected from the welded seam for analysis.
