The method involves subjecting a plastic welding seam (3) with test radiation, and detecting the reflected or led-through test radiation by a detector (7). Terahertz radiation (6) of a wavelength range between approximately 0.1 and 10 Terahertz is used as the test radiation. Quality of the plastic welding seam is automatically evaluated based on image processing methods. The plastic welding seam to be tested is covered partly or completely by a thermoplastic plastic component that consists of a colorant. An independent claim is also included for a device for non-destructive testing of a plastic welding seam.
