The vehicle (1) has controlable vibration dampers (2) adjustable between at least one soft and at least one hard damping characteristic and a device for detecting braking that outputs a signal to a controller if braking is detected, whereupon the controller (5) sets the damper to a hard characteristic at least transiently. The braking detector detects and evaluates the brake pressure in a hydraulic braking system and the controller sets the damper depending on the magnitude of the detected braking pressure.
